How often should coolant be flushed?
Most European manufacturers recommend coolant replacement every 4-5 years or 50,000-60,000 miles, whichever comes first. In South Florida’s extreme heat, we recommend checking coolant condition annually and flushing sooner if testing shows degraded protection levels.
Can I mix different coolant types?
No. Mixing incompatible coolant types causes chemical reactions that create gel-like deposits, clog cooling passages, and reduce heat transfer. European vehicles each require specific coolant formulations. We always flush completely before refilling with the correct type.
What happens if I don't flush my coolant?
Degraded coolant loses its corrosion inhibitors, allowing internal rust and scale buildup. This damages water pumps, clogs heater cores, and reduces cooling efficiency. Eventually, it can lead to overheating, head gasket failure, and catastrophic engine damage.
